Lawrence Therapy Services and Baldwin Therapy Services offers a variety of services for older adults in either our Lawrence or Baldwin clinics or in the privacy of the home. All of our services are geared towards helping a client stay as active and independent as possible so that they can remain living in their own home. The following services are covered under Medicare Part B and other insurances:
- Adaptive Equipment Assessment
For some people to continue living alone, a toilet riser, tub bench, grab bars, or walker is crucial to their safety and independence. Our therapists will evaluate which type of equipment a client needs, measure a client for the equipment, assist the client with purchasing the equipment, and follow through with training the client on how to use the equipment. - Anodyne Therapy
Anodyne Therapy is available to treat clients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, pain problems, and post-surgical conditions. Anodyne Therapy reduces swelling, increases circulation, and reduces pain. See the link to the left to learn more about Anodyne Therapy. - Arthritis Management
For a person with arthritis, performing daily tasks such as cooking, homemaking, getting dressed, and walking can be challenging. Our therapists train the client with arthritis how to protect their joints so that joint pain and deterioration is decreased. For a client with hand arthritis, a program that consists of massage, paraffin, exercise, and wearing a splint can often prevent hand deformities from getting worse. - Caregiver Training
As a person declines, it is often hard on the caregiver to know how to best help their loved one without compromising their own health. We work specifically with the caregiver to instruct on how to safely transfer the patient in and out of bed/chairs, and how to help the client walk, bathe, and dress. For clients with dementia or other memory problems, we can work with the caregiver to help the client be as safe and independent as possible. - Fall Prevention and Balance Training
Older adults are at risk for falling in their home and in the community. Our fall prevention program consists of a comprehensive evaluation of the client's balance skills and their environment to develop a plan to help them reduce their risk for falls. Balance training is done with the therapist assisting for safety and then the patient will progress to a home balance program and improve balance skills. - Incontinence Training
Urinary incontinence is the number one reason why a person has to leave their home and move into a nursing home. Whether a person has urge or stress incontinence, our therapy services can help get the problem under control through an evaluation of the pelvic floor muscles, bladder retraining, development of a home exercise program. - Mobility Training
If a person has had a stroke, hip surgery, arthritis joint pain, or any other debilitating condition, it may be difficult for them to get up and down from a chair, in and out of bed, or walk safely. Our therapists can help improve the person's mobility skills so that they can increase their strength, safety and independence in their home. - Osteoporosis Treatment and Prevention
Our osteoporosis program involves a series of stretches, exercises, and massage to improve posture and prevent further osteoporosis complications. - Personalized Exercise Program Development
People over age 55 benefit significantly from strength training as their muscle strength decreases with age. Our therapists will customize an exercise program to fit the specific needs of our clients, whether they have arthritis, a heart condition, respiratory problems, or pain. The client will be able to perform the customized exercise program in the privacy of their home or in an exercise facility if they wish. - Saftey Assessments and Environmental Modifications
Many times it is unclear if a person is safe to be living alone in their current living environment. Our therapists will evaluate the client's environment for safety hazards and the client for deficits in memory and problem solving to recommend if the client is safe to live alone. If the client has the potential to live alone safely, the therapist will recommend memory strategies and/or changes to the environment to help the client succeed independently. - Self-Care Training
Our self-care training program helps a person achieve their maximum ability to perform bathing, dressing, toileting, cooking, homemaking, and other areas of self-care. The therapist will work with the patient on the problems that are limiting their ability to be independent, such as decreased strength, range of motion, balance problems, or visual problems. The therapist will recommend and train the client with adaptive equipment to help that person gain independence. - Treatment of Chronic and Acute Pain
People deal with back, neck, hand, shoulder, knee, and foot pain every day; however, most of the time it can limit function and prevent a person from doing activities that they like to do. For older adults, it can make a difference in what they can do to stay independent. Our therapists use modalities such as paraffin, electrical stimulations, TENS unit, ultrasound, myofascial release, massage, and other treatment strategies to help reduce chronic and acute pain so that the client's function can improve and they can lead satisfying healthy lives. - Visual Training
Our therapists work with clients with macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other visual deficits to help them live safely and independently. Although the vision of a person with these visual deficits cannot be restored through therapy, compensatory strategies can be taught to help the person lead a satisfying life.
